Chaplain’s Message
The life of Jesus particularly his passion, death and resurrection is powerful and life changing. Knowing and understanding the person and life of Jesus is pivotal in our search for meaning. Growth in our spiritual life is in proportion to how well we know Jesus whose teachings and life we follow.
“No actor or actress”, Harold Sala writes, “can successfully play the part of another individual without finding out who that person really is and trying to think as the other thought. When Mel Gibson asked Jim Caviezel to play the role of Jesus in The Passion of the Christ, Jim, a Roman Catholic, thought he already knew Jesus.
Yet playing the role of Jesus changed his life. No, it wasn’t because he had to learn Aramaic or had to endure hardships while playing the part. It was because he gained a deeper understanding of Jesus and why He had to die.
That kind of understanding was exactly what Paul said every child of God should have. Paul wrote, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:5 NKJV).
Getting inside the mind of Christ will affect your perspective. Jesus saw the end from the beginning. He knew God had the power to raise Him up from death. He said confidently, “No one takes it [my life] from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again” (John 10:18).
Getting inside His mind will change your attitudes. Focus on just one area at a time. Did Jesus worry about what was on the horizon? No, he laid aside the obstacles and walked resolutely toward Jerusalem.
Getting inside His mind will change your values. Your time and money will be spent differently. Relationship will take on new importance. What you invest for God and eternity will become urgent priorities.
When you get inside the mind of Christ, and begin to think as Jesus did, you will be a different person. Seek the mind of Christ. It will change your life.”
May Jesus’ life, death and resurrection bring you, your family and friends healing, peace and joy.
Happy Easter!
God bless.

Saint of the Month
Pandita Mary Ramabai
Translator of the Scriptures, 1922
30 April -- Commemoration
Mary Ramabai was born in 1858, the daughter of a Sanscrit scholar who believed in educating women. Converting to Christianity, she nevertheless remained loyal to many aspects of her Hindu background, pioneering an Indian vision of the faith. She became well known as a lecturer on social questions, becoming the first woman to be awarded the title ‘Pandita’. She spent many years working for the education of women and orphans, founding schools and homes. Personally, she lived in great simplicity and was a prominent opponent of the caste system and child marriage. She died on this day in 1922.
Collect
God of compassion,
who gave your servant Mary Ramabai
a wondrous love of the passion of Christ:
grant that your people
may be united to him in his majesty
and rejoice for ever in the revelation of his glory;
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
AMEN.
