Brent Lions Won A Tough Game Againts Southridge
The Brent Lions won a tough fought game against Southridge on Saturday winning by a score of 9–2.
The game began as a pitchers duel with both teams holding each other scoreless through three innings. Southridge got on the board first scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 2–0. The Lions answered right back however in the next inning scoring three runs in the top of the fifth taking a lead of 3–2 that they would not relent. The lions then broke the game open in the top of the sixth scoring six runs on three hits making it a score of 9–2 that would hold until the end of the game.
The Lions were lead on defense by the pitching of Yujiro Iida and Mark Ong. The two combined to give up two runs and five hits and striking out seven to finish an impressive day on the mound. They were helped on defense by a solid all around effort that saw many Lions make great plays. Ben Cope did a great job at catcher keeping the Southridge base runners at bay all day. Ritchie Sarabia, Josh Rapaport, and Denis Nelson all impressed defensively making many plays that allowed the Lions to get out of jams and hold Southridge scoreless for much of the day.
On offense the Lions were led by Seba Martinez–Miranda who was 2–2 with two walks and a stolen base. Mark Ong also contributed for the Lions going 2–4 with 3 RBI, while Chino Santos and Karl Gibson each added a hit and an RBI for the Lions.
The Lions will resume UBL play in three weeks on October 11th when they will face off in a semi–final game. They play this weekend in the Brent International Baseball Invitational Tournament where they play Friday at 3:30pm, Saturday and 10:30am, and Sunday at 9:30am against Hong Kong International School. We hope to see you there to support the Lions baseball team.
